Actually, zigzagging is a very well accepted nautical term. As you probably know, it is a crucial naval tactic for avoiding torpedoes. However, you’re right, the canvas crowd would be appalled at the use of it.

Yes, without sheets I’m sure it’s fine, but once you put up those flappy things with all the stringy bits attached you have to get a whole new dictionary!!
