Time flies!

At the end of this month my eldest daughter Rebekah will be 18.  I’m finding that hard to take in!  My baby will be an adult in less than 30 days!! It hardly seems any time at all since she was starting school, and she is now filling out her UCAS form applying to University places for next September.

I found the photo below in a box I was tidying.  It was one Charlotte took of Rebekah, Peter & me in the garden.  We worked out that Rebekah was probably 11 in the photo, so it is about 7 years old.  I decided to try & take a photo from the same angle yesterday (it was a lovely sunny morning) but when I compare the two photos I probably should have knelt down!  Charlotte would have only been 7 at the time!

The first photo was taken in late spring, and the second yesterday, early autumn, so there are some differences because of the timing.  I will try & get Charlotte to take a photo of the 3 of us next spring when the flowers are in full bloom again.

Somehow it is easier for me to process the maturing of my garden, than it is of my children.  Next time we take the photo Rebekah won’t be able to stand in front of me as she would block me out! Maybe I’ll make her kneel!

You forgot the first rule of parenthood <- Don't Blink! šŸ˜‰

You feel old? I remember going to your first school concert with Dan & Nana. You started at Dan's feet and slowly began the journey of looking up until you found his face; it must have seemed like a mile away!

I do remember Dan being very very tall! How wonderful it would have been to have photos from then! People didn’t take photos much then at all. My mum’s uncle Billy is the only person I remember having a camera when I was little, though I think dad got one soon after Jen was born!

Taking photos back then was a slow and expensive process. You had to finish the roll of film, leave it in to be developed and pay for it at that point whether the photos were any good or not and sometimes for the expense you go somebody else’s photos! Your dad inherited Billy’s camera and I think he still has it.

It’s not THAT long ago!! I’ve been developing films for decades, I only got a digital camera in about 2004, and at the start I could only afford 16MB cards, now I have a 4GB and 8GB card which are amply sufficient for an average 2 week holiday!

Reminiscing is kind of bittersweet. But it is definitely better than not being around to reminisce!

    P.S. You’ve done a lot with that yard…looks great.

      Yes, it has definitely improved.

My grandad died when I was 12, and he had been ill for years (smoking) he was sixty something. My dad is fitter than his dad was at 50, although he did have a few stents put in a few years ago and has had to adjust his diet since that scare, but I am expecting my parents to be around for a good long time yet, most likely to meet their great grandchildren. They have more energy than me these days although I am hoping that will change! !
