Dear WordPress, Please take my Auntie out of the Spam Bin!

Please could you improve the ‘Spam’ section of the comments folder so that we can add our friends as a ‘trusted commenter’ and also consign persistent spammers to the ‘do not even consider accepting posts from this person’ folder, in the same way we can with email.

I have checked the ‘Discussion’ section of the settings menu, and while we can set rules to send comments to spam, we can not prevent them from even getting there, despite the fact that there are many from the same spammer on a daily basis.

Also, although my Favourite Auntie Marie (not to be confused with my Favourite Auntie Marie who spells her name the same but pronounces it completely differently) is an approved commenter, many of her posts end up in spam!

I check my spam folder about twice a week and there are usually the same people in there, 90% spammers and then one or two of my followers, the most common being my Auntie Marie (Grannymar), who is my best follower!!!

Please help!

Yes, and said Auntie Marie has a WordPress blog too, though it is privately hosted.

      Maybe!

The header goes with my mega-post (Egypt Part 1) that I have just published, but for some reason has snuck in as being prior to ‘Take my auntie out of the bin!’ from this morning…. very strange?

That is what you get for complaining about WordPress! 😛

  4. I’ve had the same problem with one of my favorite bloggers — every time she leaves a comment it goes directly into the SPAM bin and I can’t figure out why — this has been going on for nearly two years (if that makes you feel any better).

It does, help I mean, but it’s still very annoying! I wish we could mark people as permanently ‘Not Spam!!!’ to keep them out of Spam

This reminds me, I haven’t checked today! brb…

Maybe they know something about GM that we don’t?

Maybe indeed…some of her followers come visit me sometimes and also end up in the spam bin too! It does tend to be comments from people who are not on ‘WordPress.com’ blogs, but as GM says, hers is a WP Blog, just privately hosted.

Ahh the spam folder, you really have to check it don’t you. I find quite a few people in it sometimes. Though is it just me, or has there been a massive increase in the stuff lately.

There is definitely a huge increase, but it is often the same people, which was one of the reasons for my post…. please can we not permanently blacklist spammers so they don’t even make it to our spam folder? I had over 100 spam comments to sort through when I came back from Egypt. Not fun!
