Paddling in the sea with Wilson!
Monday was Peter’s Birthday, so we both took a day off and went to the coast. Normally we go to Chichester harbour because we have a boat there, but this time we decided to go somewhere we haven’t been for ages, but we used to go to all the time; Cuckmere Haven
Meander in Cuckmere Haven
Situtated between Seaford and Eastbourne, the flat bottomed valley typical of a glacial valley has the river Cuckmere flowing through it with text book meanders and ox-bow lakes 🙂
The mouth of the river is at the start of the chalk cliffs which stretch from here to Eastbourne and are known as the Seven Sisters
There are great walks between the meanders, and then there is the beach and the cliffs to climb, so we had great fun wandering around all day, and Wilson was able to be off the lead unless we were near sheep or the edge of the cliff which for some reason he really really wanted to look over!

Day One 
A few observations on this fascinating post.
1. Happy belated birthday to Peter.
2. Way to go Wilson. You are the Stickmeister!
3. I missed the chalk cliffs on my prior visit to England. I must correct that oversight next visit.
4. If you turned the meander picture upside down, it would be a perfect symbol for the Greek letter Omega. Ω

1. Peter says thanks! We’re off for a few days on our own (with Wilson of course) down to the boat. It feels like we haven’t been there for ages! Hopefully we will get lots of swimming done!
2. Wilson truly is the stickmeister. If there’s a stick to be found, he’ll find it, and make you throw it too!
3. The chalk cliffs are great. We’ll bring you to a place a little further along where a whole row of houses is falling into the sea. It’s called ‘Birling Gap’
4. I never thought about that either! But an upside down Omega is ringing bells too…. Will have to get back to you on that one!

For a minute I was back in school learning about ox bow lakes and meandering rivers! I never thought about them looking like the symbol for Omega.
I want to do a Donal and ask if it is a three, six or nine? 😉

It is really beautiful, especially in summer, but to be honest the walks are great in the winter too. There used to be a really great café at the end of the walk that served delicious food, but we were really disappointed to find it had changed hands and become a Tea-Rooms, and all we could get to eat after our really long walk were some (delicious) Cream Teas (freshly baked scones with lashings of clotted cream and jam). We really wanted a meal!

Nice photos….we checked the maps and also discovered that they use this area in movies instead of Dover because there is less developement. I think when we come to England we have to go down there for a jaunt. It looks so nice. We are going to need a year in England! Which may be what happens eventually. Mum is 91 so she needs me here. Looking forward to the next photos.

Yes, I’m sure it was used in the recent Robin Hood movie. It is really beautiful, and although last weekend when we were there it was quite busy as the weather was great and it’s August, we still didn’t feel like it was at all crowded. It’s a huge space, and stunning
