To take a macro photo and have the background out of focus. I have been learning how to use my camera better and make it take the photos that I want thanks to the great series of ‘The Craft of Photography‘ posts and a little help from my friends 🙂 I have a long way to go, but have been practising the very skill that this week’s photo challenge Focus, suggests we try.
For this challenge, get out there and take a picture demonstrating the concept of focus. Depending on your skill level or type of camera, tinker with the manual settings, use the auto focus feature, or play around with an app. Some ideas:
Snap a photo of something or someone in focus, against a blurred background.
Share a panorama or landscape in sharp focus, in which you can see details far away.
Take multiple photos of the same scene or subject using different aperture settings and publishing the results.

This weekend we were down in Chichester Harbour and on Hayling Island. Wilson was as usual completely focussed on his stick! Here’s some of the photos I took;
Finally, a very rare photo of Wilson in focus! Normally he is just a furry blur!
Day One 
Nice work. This is a bit odd but I’m copying a comment I made recently to another blogger who posted these type of photos. I love the blurred background shots myself. Here it is:
“Also, you have validated something for me. I used to love taking those shots where you focus on the subject and blur the background. My step-father, who was an accomplished and published photographer, hated them and would get all over me about shooting that way. I argued with him constantly about it being personal preference and having it’s own sense of artistry. Pretty silly, huh?”

Indeed! It’s all about art and personal interpretation, and fashion!
With the advent of digital photography and people like me being able to afford cameras which are capable of doing so much, the skill of being able to force the camera to do what you want it to do is coming to the forefront again 🙂
I was so thrilled to finally be able to do it with my digital camera….deliberately! This has taken me years to work out! My previous cameras all had manual settings, but I didn’t know how to use them.
Finally I’m learning 🙂

Wherever I point the camera, there is Wilson, sometimes he even sniffs the lens, so I always have to have a lens cleaner handy 🙂
