Today the sun shone so I took Wilson out and we took some photos of the floods. The water is nearly as high as it was in 2003! This is how high the water came in Weybridge. The river started to flood the road at the bend just past the Minnow Pub

The towpath was flooded at regular intervals, but we were able to walk half way to Walton Bridge before it got too deep!

The new houses on Whittets Ait weren’t built in 2003. They have space for the water to go underneath them, but the residents must be getting a bit worried!

Hopefully the stilts are long enough!

After our walk we drove down to Walton Bridge to look at the river there. On our way we noticed the fields beside Greenlands Farm and Broadwater Farm were completely submerged

The water at Walton Bridge is almost as high as 2003, just a few inches more before it completely covers the road. In 2003 the road was closed for a few days, but this hasn’t happened yet….

Below is one of my photos of some houses on Thames Meadow taken today, cut off by the water which has flooded the fields behind them and the access road in places. Underneath is a photo I took in 2003 of the same road (some of the houses have changed!)

Hard to get onto this boat moored near the pump house on Desborough Island.
The forecast is for the weather to get colder over the next few days. Hopefully not before the water levels drop or ice could add to the traffic chaos all the flooding is causing!
Day One 
My goodness! Does it flood often there? I haven’t seen any of this on the World News channels. I live near the Illinois and Missouri Rivers and we flood quite often, some years worse than others.

The last time houses were at risk here was 2003. normally the river stays pretty much within its banks, but this year high tides and a December of rain have pushed the rivers to their limits!

I’d be interested in how quickly it recedes… of course let’s hope there isn’t more rain! All the photos are really interesting. It was cool seeing 2003 and now. To me your most striking photo from an artistic point of view is the car park… very cool capture.

Thank you… I agree, that’s one of my favourites. The sun was too bright really for good photos, too much contrast and glare on the water, and in order to show the water levels I seemed to be constantly facing into the sun, but with that one it was behind me and hidden by trees from the camera.

After a tempting two days of brighter mid dry weather, we are back to rain soaked greyness. 😦

It’s kind of weird to be positive about this kind of photos, but they are really well done! I know what I’m saying, we had this kind of a surprise flood in Toronto in the summer of 2013. But also a lot a of interesting pictures came out of it. Out of these the car park is a great shot and the road at sunset from 2003 is a total gem!
