Since we have come back from New Zealand where we did lots of walking and some very steep hills at times, we have decided to keep up the level of fitness that we achieved there and to try and improve it!
Over here we don’t have anything nearly as high as the mountains we climbed in New Zealand (we didn’t actually climb mountains… just bits of them) Over there one time we climbed up 400m, and another time 5oom after an 8 mile walk!
Two weeks ago we found a new circular walk near our house past Broadwater Lake. We had done the walk before in part, but were never sure we could get through the whole way. We managed it but the area was still very damp from the floods, so we needed wellies!
Last week we decided to try & find a hill, and being out in that direction anyway, we found Reigate Hill. It was quite a cold day anyway, but at the top of the hill (where we started our walk, the wind was howling & it was threatening rain, so we had to wrap ourselves up warmly!
We decided to go down the hill and then back up, to warm us up, and to practice some hills :-). Reigate hill is only 220m high, and we weren’t going to go down to sea level… how hard could it be?
Very! I think we picked a particularly steep way to climb back up, but the 100m ascent took us at least 20 minutes & we couldn’t talk by the time we got to the top!
Wilson however was in his element! As we were struggling to climb the hill, he kept bringing us sticks to throw down the hill for him! He must have climbed the hill 20 times in the time we did it once!
He was a bit surprised when we got to the top of the hill though!
Especially when he got up close!
And this one seemed to have lost her udders!
He did like the mess they made though
I guess he was hot after all that hill climbing!
I’ll leave it to you Michelle to pick which photo you would like for your pet challenge this week!
I have found the answer to fitness for you and Peter! You each throw two sticks, one for Wilson and one for each other. then all run down to get the sticks before Wilson. Then repeat several times. 😆
Now I am running away before you try to hit me with a stick! 😉

Ha ha! We actually do that in the water in summer…. we play stick and then try & race Wilson for it, though he usually wins in the water as much as on land… he’s just not very good at swimming into waves… the water tends to go up his nose!

Those cows look almost as big as our American Buffalo. When visiting Yellowstone, they came right up to the car window….could not believe how HUGE they were!

They were very huge too! Wilson was quite surprised… I’m not sure if dogs have good depth perception… he often runs towards animals that look quite small in the distance and then suddenly as they begin to get bigger he changes his mind. When he clocked the size of these he went behind Peter 🙂
