I saw this lovely owl in our local town centre last week and was trying to get a photo of him without all the distracting backgrounds, but I couldn’t manage it.
So when I got home this evening I had a go at learning how to remove backgrounds and here is my first attempt.
Plenty of room for improvement, but I’m quite impressed with myself!
I’m not sure how good a pet this owl would make, especially if you had small birds or pet mice! Nevertheless he is joining my collection of animals to feature in Michelle’s Weekly Pet Challenge
Well done on lesson one!

well done. Photoshop is a bit daunting…but when you get something right it is very satisfying. Goodness though…those eyes…mesmerizing

This one was part of a display by a company who specialise in learning to handle birds of prey, so it was easy to get quite near 🙂 I need to perfect my photoshop skills & improve this picture with a better background, but I’m only a beginner! No idea how to do that yet!!

You did well to get such a great picture of the owl. Photoshop takes time. it’s definitely not an intuitive thing! I’ve found googling things really helps. Google was my instructor lol. If you ever have a question, don’t hestiate to contact me via my contact page and I will try to help. 🙂

Yes i’ve been using google lots & lots, there are lots of helpful online tutorials! There is so much you can do with it, but it takes ages to learn each tiny bit!.
Thanks for your offer of help! You may live to regret it!! Do you live in Melbourne too?

I’m in California so a bit far away. And yes, it takes awhile to learn. I would learn one think and do it over and over and then learn another thing and use that over and over. Repetition and note taking are your best friends lol.

I’m also trying to learn to use a mac at the same time (as photoshop is on it) so learning all the mac shortcuts is good but time consuming! As you say I’d be lost without a notebook!!
