About Me (My first attempt)

On Egeria, Summer 2011

I have recently stopped working, for many reasons, most of all I needed some time out.  I have a few ideas of where to go from here, but am still at the ideas stage with many of them.

As I said in my first ever post, I look to our dog Wilson for guidance as I step into the great unknown (for me) of self employment!  Wilson lives every moment of every day as a brand new start, every morning he wakes up with such enthusiasm about what might be in store for the day.  Every time we go out, he is so excited he can’t wait to get out the door.  Every time we come home, even if it is 5 minutes later, he can hardly contain himself with excitement for the door to open to let him back in.

This is how I plan to approach my new life. Every day will be Day One.

I have so many things I have wanted to do ‘in my spare time’ ‘in the holidays’ ‘at the weekend’ ‘when I get time’. So many things I need to do to get my myriad of new ventures off the ground both in theory and in practice. So many other bits and pieces that I keep putting off ‘until the summer’ ‘until it gets warm’ ‘until I have a day at home’ ……

This is it. Today is that day!

Let’s go Wilson!

When we don’t overdo it during the daytime, I will post what Wilson & I (and the rest of our family Husband, Teenager (15) & Teenager (18), Lilly our cat (8ish) and Myrtle our Tortoise (6) ) have been up to!

I love taking photographs.  I have always had an instant camera since my first Kodak Instamatic with 110 film when I was about 14.  It is a lot easier to take good photographs now.  I don’t have to worry about developing costs, and I can see my mistakes instantly.  I have pretty big memory cards (4 & 8GB), so have my camera at the highest resolution, and take scores of photos the same thing until I am happy that I have done my best. Then when I get time, I trawl through the thousands of photos I have collected and usually find about 10 that I am happy with.

My family get very annoyed with me on walks as I am constantly stopping to take photos, but I want to learn to take good pictures, and the best way is through trial and error. I love my camera, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ8.  It is a great pocket camera and has really fast reaction times, but my lens is scratched 😦  I would love another one but I would also love to learn how to use an SLR!

The gallery contains mostly photos of me, at my wedding & graduation. Again I had lots of photos to chose from so it was much easier to come up with some that I like!

When I get time I will load some of my travel photos, when I get time…….

Update 16.11.12

This post also says a lot about me; Imagine

I have just realised… Le Clown was the first to ‘like’ my about me page, and he got all excited about it…. And then I worked out the difference between Posts & Pages, and moved my ‘About Me’ page here..so he is no longer the first…. I and I know that might be the final slight to destroy his fragile ego…. So here is the link to my ‘Original About Me‘ page as liked first by Le Clown

Update 17.11.12

I am such a numpty.  Recently I changed the way my comments display so they are most recent at the top…. so Le Clown was there all the time, just at the bottom!  I think I will change it back though, comments make more sense in chronological order…. now…. can I remember how to do it??

Nice to know somethings about you Barbara. I too quit working for others many years ago and have not regretted that decision ever. What I do now is not really work, though I still manage to make some money which is like jam on my bread and butter.

I was so excited by our ‘in-common-ness’ I forgot to thank you for the lovely compliment about my writing. 🙂

My daughter (18) read my first post and her comment was ‘Actually mum you write quite well’ I guess that was a compliment too!

  5. Barbara, I love your Day One concept and describing it through the enthusiastic spirit of a dog is so perfect. I have thought about stepping out of full-time work and living in a different way many times but haven’t quite figured out how. (Life is so short!) I carry the health insurance for my family through my job and I definitely haven’t figured that part out yet. . .

We are so so lucky in the UK as we have the National Health Service which puts us back together very well when we fall apart. Right now my Fibromyalgia is really affecting me, and I am so so lucky that our social security system is holding me (and my family) up until I can get myself a bit better. I’m also getting loads of help from a few different organisations in helping me to focus my efforts on work so I get to apply for positions that I can do on a self employed basis & that are ideally suited to my skills.

I haven’t got anywhere near the jewellery making yet…. apart from collecting a good few compartmentalising boxes and playing Cinderella a few evenings 🙂 One of my favourite games! I really am quite autistic too! 🙂 Thanks for following me… I’ll be over soon to return the visit

Hi Barbara! Wanted to stop by and visit you again after your visit at “my place” today! Love, love, love how you are inspired by Wilson. I often say to my husband, when I tell him about a decision I’ve made, that I am doing what our dog Blackberry advised. And I look at her as I say this and I swear I can feel her laughing with me. 🙂 Dogs do have a wonderful grasp on life and seldom do I ever see her stress. We can learn a lot from them! Well, I better get, got more of your posts to read!

      Hi Heidi

Thank you 🙂 I haven’t looked up a Crocodile spirit guide yet, but I will… considering I love most reptiles (except snakes for some reason) and we have a tortoise I will definitely check them out! For some reason I perceive them as cuddly, which they probably are not!

I only fairly recently discovered Crocodile… and a short time after that we went to a sea-life centre. For the first time, I really looked at the crocodiles, and saw their beauty. cuddly? Maybe not 🙂 But they are beautiful! A shame you don’t like snakes… I have a personal link with them. Maybe if you look up their medicine/power too, you might change your mind 🙂
