We used to live on the island from 1961-1964
On concrete hull houseboat mikado at the top end of the island facing shepperton lock and across from the home of Gilbert (or Sullivan)
Island was for sale after we left for 750 thousand pounds
    Should have bought it!

Wow!! Definitely! It was sold for around 7m a few years back now to some Chinese developers… nothing happening at the moment but they’re applying for planning permission to add fire escapes and lifts. I expect it will eventually end up as several luxury apartments! They’ve cleared all the moorings, so no boats there now at all 😥

It’s quite high above the water level but the island is vulnerable
They built up the defenses at the head of the island a few years back so hopefully it will hold!
