Let there be light!

We are really lucky, we have a lovely south facing garden, so in summer (if the sun comes out) it is full of light and sun!  The only shadow on the horizon has been caused by some huge Leylandii trees in the garden of our neighbours a few houses down.  When we moved in they were big, but 12 years later at about 40ft (12m) high they really throw a huge shadow on our garden in the afternoon.

My Best Photo of The Week

Converted Mill buildings and Lock keepers cottage at Thames Lock

Converted Mill buildings and Lock keepers cottage at Thames Lock

This is a photo of the converted mill buildings beside ‘Thames Lock’ the last lock on the River Wey in Weybridge before it joins the Thames.  I am composing another post about the lock in connection with some historical photos of the lock that I have found, but for now let me just tell you that this lock was built in 1653 with the bricks from Oatlands Palace which was one of Henry the VIII’s hunting lodges which was situated where I now live!

Thanks Donna for this challenge and the reminder!!

Grannymar’s Sunday One-Liners

This week for my contribution to Grannymar’s Sunday One Liners I thought I’d leave poor old George W alone and provide a quote from one of my favourite authors

“There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.”

Oscar Wilde

Oatlands Palace

I have wanted to participate in Lisa’sMy Home Town‘ Sunday challenge for a good long time, but before I post about my local area, or the nearby towns that I call my hometowns, I have to post about something a lot closer to my home; Henry VIII Palace at Oatlands, Weybridge.
