Wilson has been getting a lot of airtime recently, so for the third week of Michelle’s weekly pet challenge here is a picture of my very first pet, a beautiful and very large tabby who the girls christened ‘Tiggles’ as he was very tiger-like
Tiggles had a very soft side despite his size, he could be incredibly cute when he slept, and he always slept on my feet before Wilson came along. He was a really big cat, with huge paws & really strong teeth & claws, but he never hurt us when playing, it was like he knew his own strength! Whenever he played you could never feel his claws, unlike Lilly who seems to sharpen hers on us! He was a gentle giant.
Peter was given him by some people who had found him and couldn’t find his owners, they reported finding him to the police but nobody ever claimed him. When we got him we thought he was about 6 months old due to his size, but when we took him to the vet to have him neutered the vet said he was only 2 months old!
He was always half wild and very afraid of some things, cautious of strangers and terrified of plastic bags. Whenever we used to come home with shopping he would run a mile! We think he may have escaped from drowning, hence his fear of plastic bags.
We saw a programme about Scottish Wildcats and he bore extremely similar markings and was similar in size, so we really think he was a wildcat, or descended from one.
Have a look at my gallery of photos and let me know what you think?
- Tiggles and Lilly resting
- Squirrel!
- big teeth!
- Playing with Lilly
- Hide & seek?
- Christmas present for the cats! April our Hamster!!
- Tiggles was very big… we had to install a Small Dog cat flap for him as he nearly got stuck in the normal one
- Stalking like a wildcat
- Ready to pounce!
- Myrtle was about a year old then, now she climbs over the cat bowl!
They are all so adorable…I so want to cuddle them all….

Thank you 🙂
Unfortunately Tiggles died a few years ago, old & happy, but lilly is sitting on my knee digging her claws in to me as I write… Occasionally she tries to ‘help’ with my typing!. Maybe she knows i’m writing about her BIG brother!

Oh so sorry to hear about Tiggles…
I also have a very “Proud” Indian cat and she kneads my back all the time…Lately she has also developed a habit of licking my head 🙂 She licks for hours and pulls my hair intermittently…I simply love it…For company she has a feisty English Cocker Spaniel and a naughty Dalmatian…
My love to Lilly….

I love when they ‘knead’ you… I read somewhere it is called puddening; they do it to their mums to stimulate milk flow :). When Tiggles used to do it, it felt like a deep professional massage! Wilson (our cocker spaniel) chases the cats all the time, it would be good if they stood up to him, but they don’t so we only can have one pet at a time, Wilson or Lilly

Yes you are right about puddening….Occasional fights do break out between our Spaniel and Poos Poos as well, but now they have come to some kind of understanding…

He was huge! when my uncle came from Australia to visit he saw Tiggles & exclaimed ‘what’s that??!!’ Tiggles used to sleep on our bed during the day, we would suddenly hear this huge THUD and we would all say… here comes Tiggles 🙂 He sounded like a child jumping off the bed! not a dainty house cat!
