Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette (4) (This is getting silly!)

I love taking photos at sunset, my first ‘good’ photo was at sunset, so I guess that was what got me hooked.  These two are especially interesting as the West Pier in Brighton has now completely collapsed.  The Pier was closed in 1975 but tours were offered until part of the Pier collapsed in a storm at the end of 2002.

My first photo is from 2002 and shows a murmuration of starlings coming to roost in the concert hall.

In 2003 there were two fires which destroyed the concert hall and there have been subsequent collapses due to storms and small fires.

My second photo is of the pier in 2008 showing the bare skeleton which remained then.

A further part of the pier was demolished in 2010 however there are plans by The West Pier Trust to rebuild the pier in the future.

I have now uploaded 3 (!) other posts relating to this challenge & tomorrow is Friday!

  1. I find the photo of the bare skeleton really compelling. I’ve never been to Brighton, I really do have to make a point of getting down there on a future trip to England.

It is well worth a visit, especially in the summer. I will be doing a post on Brighton in ‘My Travels’ at some point. The advantage of not being a native English-girl is that I am a tourist almost everywhere that I go here :). Brighton is the nearest seaside to a lot of London & has been a holiday town since before Victorian times. In Ireland we have lots of beaches but nothing like the English Boardwalks, Promenades or Piers.

Both piers are very photogenic 🙂

Thank you! I have literally hundreds of thousands of digital photos on my computer that I rarely look at, this is a great way to get me to look through them all and find ones that match the challenges. Looking at other people’s posts reminds me of other photos & hence the 4 separate posts for this challenge!!
