Weekly Photo Challenge: Carefree

What can be more carefree than paddling in the sea!

Paddling in the sea with Wilson!

Monday was Peter’s Birthday, so we both took a day off and went to the coast.  Normally we go to Chichester harbour because we have a boat there, but this time we decided to go somewhere we haven’t been for ages, but we used to go to all the time; Cuckmere Haven Continue reading

Daily Prompt: Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall

Yesterday’s daily prompt asked us to think of our blogs as mirrors:

“What does it reveal? Consider your blog name, theme choice, design, bio, posts… what does every element tell you about yourself?”

“Photographers, artists, poets: show us REFLECTIONS”

I have been thinking about my blog name, design, layout & posts recently since the theme I had chosen became a ‘responsive theme’ and I didn’t like how my blog looked on my iPad. When I changed theme I needed to decide on a header, background image and colour scheme again, and I eventually settled on a look that was very similar to my old theme, but shows up how I want it to on my iPad 🙂 Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Portrait or Landscape

I love the new series of posts devoted to photography as visual storytelling.  I read this week’s post ‘Finding the Best Shot – Portrait or Landscape‘ and was having a conversation with Jeff Sinon about taking both landscape and portrait photos of the same view.  I was saying that my hand is steadier in a landscape position so prefer those shots & he recommended that I use a tripod and an ‘Really Right Stuff “L” plate’ to switch quickly from portrait to landscape and back again

A dyslexic walks into a bank… “Air in the hands mother stickers this is a fuckup!”

I’ve known that I was dyslexic from before I started school.  My dad is dyslexic, he struggles with reading and spelling, he had a really hard time in school, he was always afraid of exams. Lots of my relatives are dyslexic. It runs in our family. My youngest daughter is dyslexic too.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreshadow

My contribution to this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge; Foreshadow, could better be named ‘Aftershadow’

On our Maiden voyage of our new boat Lady C, our voyage was to bring her from one side of Langstone Bridge to the other….. the long way.

The bridge is too low for us to navigate without de-masting, so we decided to race the tide around Hayling Island and try to get all the way around before we ran out of water.  We knew the journey would take us three or four hours, so we needed to leave as soon as there was enough water on the Langstone Harbour side and get to the mooring on the other side in Chichester Harbour before the tide had gone out too far.  On our last boat Egeria we would have managed no problem as her engine was more powerful, but with a new boat, fighting the tide almost the whole way, we were worried we might not make it.  We did have the option of spending the day in Northney Marina if we were too late, but we preferred making it to our mooring in time if we could

The evening before our trip everything looked good

All looks well

Welcome to Visitors from 100 different Countries!

I have been blogging for just over one year now (I started on the 21st of July last year) and have published 238 posts! Since I installed the flag counter I have been visited by people from 100 different countries!

I was so excited to see this I thought I’d check how many countries there are…. according to ‘Flag Counter‘ there are 241, so I haven’t even reached half way around the world yet!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fresh Flowers in my Garden

This week’s Weekly Photo Challenge is Fresh

As I said in my last post for this challenge this week we have been experiencing the third week of a wonderful heatwave and nobody is complaining as we have had enough of wet cold summers.

In the last few days some thundery showers have arrived, lots of lightning, heavy downpours, humidity.  Again we are not used to this, but our gardens are very glad of the rain!

We have a Catalpa tree in our garden which has beautiful big pale leaves which we tend to sit under when the sun gets too hot (even for mad dogs and Englishmen) Last night we had a lot of rain, and today it’s beautiful orchid-like flowers have come into full bloom

I only wish I could smell them!

These remind me of freshly washed and very creased white cotton sheets!

The other flowers that I love that are in flower at the moment are my red flowers (whose name has completely gone from my brain for the moment! Please help!!) and our anemone flowers

Photography 101: The Quality of Light

I love the new series of posts devoted to photography as visual storytelling.  For me, that is what my camera has been for many years.  As a child I wrote a diary, but i would have phases of intense writing, followed by periods where the days all seemed to merge and either far too much stuff was happening to possibly have time to write it down, or else nothing of note happened.
