Weekly Pet Challenge

When we arrived in Perth, I think we expected to see Kangaroos all over the place, wandering around the land beside the airport… in empty spaces, in parks.  We were very disappointed not to find any at all 😦 Continue reading

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge; Texture

This week’s theme for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge is Texture (I’ve double checked!)

Whenever we visit a city we love to go and visit the botanical gardens, not only for the plants, but also because it is great place to see the local wildlife, and get a real feel for the climate.  I loved the botanical gardens in Melbourne, the tall trees were a welcome cover from the hot sun!Botanical Gardens MelbourneThe textures of some of the plants were very interesting, the flower above was huge!  Here are some others with really interesting textures

Weekly Travel Theme; Pink

Pink is NOT my favourite colour.  I most definitely do not have any pink clothes (although I must admit that about 10 years ago I did go through a really strange phase and bought a pink suede jacket and pink suede boots.  Thankfully I don’t have either any more!

Horse & Cart in MelbourneI saw these poor horses in Melbourne adorned in Pink feathers with a driver dressed in bright pink!

One Word Photo Challenge; Black

Recently I posted a picture of a black swan for one of Cee’s photo challenges that I  came across in Esher, near where I live.  Then I found out that the Black Swans are actually native to Australia, so when I went there I was thrilled to find some;

Black SwanThese ones were swimming in the sheltered backwaters of Lakes Entrance, one of our swim stops on the way from Melbourne to Sydney!

Weekly Photo Challenge; Reflections

I love reflections 🙂  I’m always taking photos over water especially when it’s still.  When we were in New Zealand we went to visit Milford Sound, and one of the attractions on the way to the Sound (which is actually a Fjord) is ‘Mirror Lakes’

Wilson Poses for a Portrait

Wilson is very hard to photograph… he is usually moving far too quickly, or he blends in with the background.  Nevertheless I persevere, and occasionally in the hundreds of photos of a black blur just leaving the corner of the photo, or a pink tongue in a dark corner, I come across one I am happy with.

One Word Photo Challenge; Red

I did a quiz recently for one of my followers, and I found out;

“Your soul is painted the colour red, which embodies the characteristics of love, strength, physical energy, sex, passion, courage, protection, excitement, speed, leadership, power, danger, and respect. Red is the colour of the element Fire, and is associated with blood, life and death, birth, volcanoes, and intense emotions. ”

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge; The Colour Purple

Since Jennifer’s One Word Photo Challenge ‘Purple‘ last week I have been finding more and more purple in my life!  I found a purple silk shirt & here is a purple flower that got left out from last week’s selection!

Flower in LanzarotteWe found this flower in Lanzarotte, growing in volcanic rubble.  Half of the island is one massive lava flow which happened only 200 years ago, so the land is very new and inhospitable.  It was great to see this tiny delicate flower peeping through all the black lava.

Thank you Cee for choosing Purple this week!
