One of the best things about coming home is finally getting a chance to look through all my photographs and to share some of my favourites with my friends and family.

The Jetty for the Ferry to Penguin Island

This holiday I have excelled myself and have taken 7,006 photos!!  Having taken an average of 189 photos a day it’s probably going to take me a couple of months to sort through them all, and then share some of them.

Looking through all the photos again helps me remember how great the holiday was, and all the amazing things we did.  Visiting Penguin Island in Western Australia was definitely one of my highlights!

There were two ways to get to Penguin Island, to take the ferry, or walk, canoe or paddle-board through deliciously warm waist deep water across a sandbar.  We decided to walk… it was a lot further than it looked, and quite hard work in the deep water, but great fun!  I would recommend bringing flip-flops (thongs, jandals, go-aheads, slappies, slides, step-in) which we forgot, as the walkways across the island are searingly hot in the midday sun!

Penguin Island

We were not very hopeful of seeing the Penguins in the wild.  The Island is a breeding colony of little penguins who live on the Island from April to November.  During this time the Island is closed to visitors while the penguins are raising their young.  After breeding the little penguins spend some time at sea fattening up before returning to the island during summer to moult over a couple of weeks.  We were really lucky to be there when a few penguins were moulting & we found some hiding in the rocks and under walkways.
